Scope and purpose

Supply Chain Management encompasses transportation activities between suppliers, manufactures, warehouses, retailers and end-customers. It accounts for a sizeable proportion of the world economy and has been the subject of numerous scientific studies. The theme of this special issue of IJPR is relatively broad in that it encompasses the transportation activities conducted at all levels of the supply chain, at the strategic, tactical and operational planning levels. Original and high quality studies related to this theme are welcome. All contributions must clearly be positioned within the supply chain environment and must contain a strong transportation component.

Specific topics of interest include but are not limited to:

- Supply chain network design

- City logistics

- Integrated logistics

- Vehicle routing and scheduling

- Facility layout and management

- Intermodality

- Crossdocking

- Reverse logistics

- Inventory-routing

- Novel supply chain organizations.

Contributions based on presentation made at the IESM 2013 Conference are particularly welcome, but the Special Issue is open to the entire scientific community.
